Part II of my itinerary covers things to do in Prague, at night.
You can read the first half of the itinerary here.
Most people may suggest to go to a pub crawl or visit Karlovy Lazne Club (biggest nightclub in Central Europe).
Even though it sounded exciting, we could not convince ourselves to party and get drunk indoors, since Prague is so beautiful at night.
Hence a few of us decided to grab their favourite alcohol and we decided to just stroll around the city.
Call us crazy, but the best experience we had was sitting by the street on the west end of Charles Bridge, listening to a Gorgeous Jazz singer and a guitarist play some amazing songs.
Here are some interesting things to do at night.
This is the tallest structure in the city. The architecture is very unconventional. Some may say it's quite creepy as Giant Babies are crawling all over the tower. It's an interpretation by sculptor David Cerny.Zizkov has an Observatory, a Hotel and a Restaurant & Bar called Oblaca. A must visit for couples who would like to enjoy a romantic dinner. Reservation is recommended.
It was a full moon night, partly cloudy skies and dazzling streets of Prague. I decided to take a walk on Charles Bridge. The most popular structure in Prague, Charles Bridge is simply magnificent at night. Built over the river Vlatva, it's important for it's connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town. The Eastern and Western Tower at the respective ends of the bridge are beautifully lit. You will see a lot of statues on the bridge. What makes the bridge come alive are the street musicians. Inspired by the street culture, I took out my Ukulele and started busking. To my surprise, a lot of passers by paused to hear me sing and play. A photographer took some great shots and later, sent it to me. Here is a glimpse of me on the Charles bridge.
It was 9:45pm and we were near the Astronomical Clock. We observed a big gathering of people at the Astronomical Clock. As we got closer to 10:00, the crowd doubled. We had no clue what was happening. Our guess was that once the clock strikes 10, we shall see something wonderful coming out of the clock tower. People started gearing up with cameras and phones. We could not wait longer as curiosity started killing us.This clock is the world's oldest functioning astronomical clock. We wondered what the architects and watch makers in 1410 BC would have designed.Clock strikes 10!We see 2 tiny windows open and various figurines appear. To tell you the truth this was bloody disappointing. We found out from someone that this is one of the World's top most disappointing tourist attraction after Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa.Have a look at the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl41yQ5pfe0
The Astronomical Clock, The Tynn Church, Jan Hus Memorial in the Old Town Square in Prague will give you the Gothic vibes.Adding to those are horse carriages, violinist playing classic tunes and pop up food joints. This is the most buzzing place in the city. I recommend to just explore the small lanes around the town square and you will find some amazing cafes, souvenir shops and food joints.
Being a musician I have always been open to different genres of music. However, I had never really gone for a Jazz concert. We wanted to skip the pub crawl and just sit back and relax. There was no better idea than listening to some live music.Reduta is one of the most popular Jazz Clubs in the world and Bill Clinton himself has played here. This was by far one of the best musical experience I have had. It was a Eargasm hearing a 15 piece instrumental Jazz Band peform for over an hour.My friends who have never listened to jazz in their life were reluctant to come for this. They thanked me after the concert was over.
While walking around the city we came across a huge market where they were selling handmade items which were mostly souvenirs. Most popular item was the clock. They were quite overpriced but we loved browsing through nearly 50 such shops. Some of these have fresh fruits and we had a handful of berries which were delicious. I ended up buying a matchbox and a keychain for gifts.
