Few weeks of stressful days at office!! Much needed break on a weekend for me and my friend! We opted the enchanting Pondicherry that is nearby to our city! We boarded bus from Chennai, morning 8.00 am and reached the destination by roughly 11. The hotel was nearby to the bus stop. After getting fresh,we hired a two wheeler from the hotel(it is more common among the hotels here).
We have planned to hit Paradise beach that is located few kms south to the town.
That was roughly a half an hour ride from where we stayed. The white shining sand, the mesmerising broad view of Bay of Bengal, the clear sky, the briskness of Sea gulls in air, less crowd (the exact thing I want from a beach),the stunning huts of a seaside restaurant and alot made the paradise island a real Paradise!!!
Nannari Sarbath with pisin seeds and Sugarcane juice from the locals just outside the beach helped us to resist the scorching Sun.
From there we came back to the White town, the place where French culture can be explicitly visible from the buildings, the food, people and more! We have searched for French cafes nearby to taste delicate French food!! We went for Crepe in touch. We doubted at first when entered the place whether it’s a cafe or not cz lot of artifacts and craft things were surrounded by the reception and it was beautiful. We were directed to the terrace to sit and the place was beautifully arranged overall. We ordered a cheesy saint malo and Cold coffee. The latter one was delicious!! We roamed inside the cafe to see lot of books and amazing art related things. The place was quite a heaven to spend some quality time. We did hit another French cafe nearby as well and had French omelette sandwich and Hibiscus juice. Then we went back to hotel and took some time.
The Rock beach in white town is the perfect place for night out in pondy and we went there at around 7pm. We had no idea it was two days before Full moon until we saw the beauty of its shining light in the water. Beauty of sea during Full moon is more than describing in words but on that night it was the most beautiful scene I have ever seen. Thanks to my friend who postponed the trip from previous week :P
We had a long walk alongside the beach and could see people from this little town coming together and spending time at seashore and having a drink at seaside cafes. Also few kids skated here and there brilliantly to astonish us!!!
We missed on the Sunrise and we did reach the Auroville beach by 7.30 am. The place was at few kms north from the town. Perfect morning sun, perfect morning bathe, perfect photoshoot!! Auroville beach made our morning that day. Big blow for us as Pondicherry’s iconic Auroville was closed on that day(Sunday). So we returned back to the town.
The next stop was the 300 years old Immaculate Conception Cathedral church, the mother church of Pondicherry and Cuddalore Diocese. We could sense the time it has come across through its wall, it’s Altar and it’s ceiling.
The Pondicherry Government museum just near to the French heritage ‘Raj Nivas’ showcased us not only the history of this French land but also of few other TN districts especially of Karaikkal. Those who missed Arikamedu Fort ruins during the trip can witness few ruins here in this museum along with the transports, furnitures used on that time.
Riding through the yellowish French colony, having some creepy ice creams(:P),photoshoot in french colony made the remaining morning time. We did check out from the hotel by noon.
Missed Auroville for a second time, still lot of cafes outta there to taste delicious snacks and still few hidden beaches are outta there!
So with the sure hope of coming back, we left the little France with sweet memories!!!!!
