Pondy: India's french connection

Tripoto

Pondicherry is much more than Auroville, beaches and booze. It is a part of India that is undeniably french. The french part of Pondy is beautiful and tranquil. You can either rent a scooty and zip through the streets overlooking the Promenade beach or just take a peaceful walk by the shoreline.

La cafe is a cafe located on the Promenade beach that has a very European feel attached to it. A lot of tourists visit this place to enjoy a cafe experience by the beach. The bakeries and restaurants in this part of the town serve European delicacies.

The old-world french buildings painted in bright colours are very much a part of the charm of this area. The bougainvillea plants, big french windows, beachfront, beautiful alleys, boutique hotels and the yellow coloured walls will take you back to the 1950s.

Promenade beach, Gandhi statue, lighthouse, Romain Rolland library, Joan of Arc statue and Pondicherry museum are some of the must-visit spots in the French Quarters. There is a small exhibition hall in this locality that exhibits different items on weekend. The people of Pondicherry are very friendly. The French Quarters is one of the multiple faces of Pondy.
