Have you ever thought of a place where rich culture of India amalgamates with that of West? If not, then Pondicherry is the best example for it. Pondicherry, also known as 'Pondy' is a beautiful town which has the perfect blend of French colonial and Indian culture. It is a quaint little Union Territory situated along the Coromandel Coast of India.
Pondy is well known for strong influence of France in the city and the beaches being only a part of it. But there is a secluded beach in the town which reflects its tranquility by its crystal clear blue-green water and golden sand.It is truly said, "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore" and I completely abide by this.
Paradise beach is situated at an island in Pondicherry. It is a Pristine Private Beach and to reach this beach, one has to take a ferry ride of about 20-25 minutes from Chunnambar Boat House which is situated on Pondicherry-Cuddalore highway. The frequency of boat is about every 20 minutes. There is a variety of choices of boat, motor boat, speed boat or house boat. Separate tickets has to be taken for different types of boats that will take you to the Paradise Beach and bring you back. The only bad thing about this place is that one has to stand in a long queue especially during peak season. However, all such tiredness is vanished when one reaches this beautiful beach.
Part of the fun in reaching the beach is the beautiful ferry from the boathouse. The backwaters on the way to the beach are green and have thick mangrove forests. You can spot a lot of birds while on the ride and photography enthusiasts can take beautiful pictures on the way.
On reaching the Paradise Beach, one can experience that it truly stands by its name. It is certainly a paradise of all the beaches of Bay of Bengal. It has a continuous stretch of beach of about 2.5 kilometers. Activities like rain dance, beach volleyball, boat ride can be done here. Changing rooms and shower are also available here. The things to keep in mind while exploring this beach is that it is a non-alcoholic beach which makes this area more serene and quiet.
This beach is always swaying in cool breeze. If one doesn't want to involve in any activity or want to be far from hussle of the city, then this place is perfect to relax. This is a little isolated beach where the sand is extraordinarily soft and grainy. It is advisable to not go deep in the water as the currents in the water are high. There are a few shacks along the main entrance to the beach, and you can get fresh coconut water and some simple snacks here. Paradise beach is a great spot to reach early morning and get a view of the sunrise on the eastern coast.
