With a wish to take a break from all the work and everyday routine I started my trip from chennai to pondichery with a halt at mahabalipuram. It was a good decision to start early in the morning, by the time sky started to light up we were in ECR road where every lane on the left takes you to mighty bay of bengal. It is a single highway from chennai to pondicherry. Once the humdrum of city subsides gorgeous stretches of land with Ocean faraway started greeting. After few minutes sun started peeking out.
It was a picturesque view while rising sun started playing with dark clouds casting an orange glow around them as if sun kissed them and clouds blushed red and sun rays bouncing off of Ocean at a little distance.
After few minutes sun started peeking out of the clouds which are trying valiantly to do the impossible, within a few kilometers rising sun started playing peek-a-boo with tall trees, in between ocean keeps taking turns to say Hi to us.
With windows rolled down, cool winter breeze blowing through my hair, warm sun rays tingling on the skin, and such a picturesque view as constant companion along the ride making me forget all the heartaches till its just me, wind, rising sun and ocean. There is a saying it's the journey that matters not the destination, it is so true for this journey
While my heart is already filled with freshly found joy, there came napier bridge where pulicat lake rushes to meet with the Bay of Bengal, migrating birds flying in the sky, wintering ducks wading their way across, my heart swelled with happiness and I just had to stop and get some clicks. The play of sun, clouds and ocean continues till mahabalipuram.
In Mahabalipuram with a ticket for just 40rs we can visit sea shore temple. This monumental construction is built from single rock..such exquisite architechture on the sea shore, ensuring all the water from the city flows to specified area makes you say It happens only in India.
Then I waddled my way to ocean dipped my feet a little and moved on to see pancha rathas, light house and mandapas.
And then started my journey to Pondicherry, road is lined with vast stretches of green lands, fish lakes and lakes filled with lotuses which will make your heart sing. Trees along the road form a green dome.
Pondicherry welcomes you with a beautiful arch right in the middle from there I went to aurobindo ashram..taking pictures is not allowed here but colorful flowers lining the walls will make you ache to reach for your phone and get some snaps, it is located in its famed French quarters, graffiti and 3D-art in the cafes around the place is amazing. I went around to visit museam, basilica of the sacred heart of jesus, governor’s residence, park in front of it, and drive along the beach road for my heart’s content looking at French buildings on one side and bay of Bengal on the other. When sun started to cool down I had my fill of the ocean and started my return journey.
