'Me time' - for some is shopping, and for others it is soaking in the sun, sand and the sea. And when you want to experience both to your heart’s content, there is only one top destination that comes to mind. The quintessential tourist’s paradise, Thailand, is possibly the most popular international destination for Indians! However for the longest time in known history, the country has been out of bounds for tourists.
You can visit your favourite destination again!
As per news reports, starting the mid of October 2021, Thailand is set to open for foreign travellers who are fully vaccinated. The economy of the country is highly dependent on tourism, and the pandemic has adversely affected the economy massively.
The Thai PM has said that fully inoculated foreign visitors and returning Thai citizens must be allowed entry "without quarantine or other inconvenient restrictions." This reopening was earlier slated for January 2022.
Very recently the The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) has proposed a new 'One Night, One Dollar' campaign, which would offer hotel rooms at as low as USD 1 in the island of Phuket. This “Phuket Sandbox” where vaccinated international visitors can enter Phuket entails several restrictions including a requirement of visitors to stay on the island for 14 days before heading to the mainland.
You can read more about this offer here. Also the Thai government’s plans to get over 70% of the population administered at least one dose of the Covid vaccine before October.
If all goes as per plan, you may just be ringing in your 2022 on James Bond Island, and shopping to your heart’s content at Chatuchak!
