Phnom Penh is the capital city of Cambodia with a dash of french architectural buildings. If you are skeptical about traveling to Indochina cities, PLEASE DO NOT BE! Because they are one of the loveliest cities to be in with friendly locals and is a culturally-rich city to explore!
The Wat Phnom Temple is a Buddhist temple located 27 metres above ground. The pagoda is the tallest religious structure and the most important temple in Phnom Penh. Do take note take that in order to access the temple, you will need to climb up a flight of stairs.
The night market is located along the river front and get rather crowded during the weekends and towards dinner time. The market offers a wide variety of shopping ranging from cheap clothes to handicrafts to souvenirs. There are even food stalls there where you can have your dinner and even mini performances. There is also a large area with carpets placed for people to have their meals purchased from the food stalls.
The Royal Palace comprises of several complex buildings put together and serves as the royal residence of the King of Cambodia. Unfortunately, when I was there the King passed away and the palace was temporary closed to public. Nevertheless I managed a shot of the palace from the outside. Do note that dress code applies when visiting the palace.
This market is constructed in a shape of a dome with four arms branching out into vast hallways with countless stalls of goods. The four wings of this gigantic yellow dome are teeming with stalls that sell goods ranging from gold and silver, antique coins, money exchange, men's and women's apparel, clocks, books, flowers, food, fabrics, shoes, souvenirs, fish, seafood, dessert, luggage, and countless other products. It is very prominent and easy to locate with its yellow colour exterior. Put your bargaining skills to the test here!
The site is a former high school which was used as the notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from its rise to power in 1975 to its fall in 1979. A visit to this museum is a very depressing experience having seen the dilapidated building along with the pictures hung around the area. It is recommended that you hire a guide at a nominal fee so that you can learn more the happenings and what exactly took place. The Cheung Ek Killing Fields, the site of a former orchard and mass grave of victims of the Khmer Rouge - killed between 1975 and 1979. This yet another depressing site to visit. These 2 places are not really suitable for everyone, I would suggest you do more reading up before deciding if you would like to visit these 2 places.
