Daksheswar Mahadev Temple is located in Kankhal Haridwar Uttarakhand. Dakseswar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple of Lord Shiva is named after King Daksha Prajapit, father of Sati. This temple was built by Rani Dankaur in 1810 and the temple was rebuilt in 1962. King Daksha Prajapati was the son of Lord Brahma and the father of Sati. Sati was the first wife of Lord Shiva. King Daksha organized a grand yagya at this place in which all the devi-devtas, sages and saints were invited. Lord Shiva was not invited in this yagya. Sati felt humiliated by this incident because Sati felt that King Daksha had insulted Lord Shiva. Sati sacrificed her life by jumping into the fire of yagya. This enraged Lord Shiva and Lord Shiva sent his half-gods Virabhadra, Bhadrakali and Shiva Ganas for the Kankhal war. Virbhadra beheaded King Daksha. At the request of all the gods, Lord Shiva donated life to King Daksha and put a goat's head on it. King Daksha realized his mistakes and apologized to Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva announced that every year in the months of Sawan, Lord Shiva will reside in Kankhal. In place of the Yagna Kunda, the Dakshevar Mahadev Temple was built and it is believed that even today, the yagya Kunda temple has its own.
