I was meeting up with my school friends after a while now. They asked me to take them for a drive that's memorable.
I was undecided about where to take them. Ultimately I decided upon a place called Mangala jodi, 70 kms from Bhubaneswar. I didn't know what to expect as I hardly had an idea about the place. All I knew was that there was boating in the Chilika lake and that this place is great for birdwatching. The govt. had recently taken over the upkeep of the place.
So I got there in a Zoom car, after an hour's drive. The boating charges were 1200 for a boat, which accommodated a max. of 4 people and also had guide for the tour. Trust me, when we started I was blown away by the beauty of the place. The calmness and serenity was unmatched for. Never had I expected such a place to exist in my own backyard. Professional photographers were vying to capture the birds in action. The guide helped us keep a track of all the different birds. We were also provided with a binocular on the boat. It's a haven for photographers and all those lost old souls who want to take some time off and slow down.
For those who want to spend a night out there, there's a government nature camp on a hill besides Chilika. It's an underrated but a must visit location.
