Weather and clothing -
Before planning for Trolltunga check the weather. Though Weather changes very quickly up there so wear clothes according specially for rain and wind . And because of rain /wind temp can drops to freezing. wear comfortable clothes and proper hiking shoes .
Always check the latest videos and blogs about trails because usually best time of hiking starts from mid June but this year in 2020 we went in last of June and around 4-5 km of hiking trails were covered in snow .
Food and drinks-
Pack proper food items for your way . If you have plan to camp then accordingly pack tea , coffee and other food items and mini gas stove . Donโt need to take water , there are many water streams on the way of hiking trails even up there at Trolltunga.
Trolltunga hiking trail is perfectly marked so there is no need of any guide. If you plan to hike in one day then It is advisable to start hike early in the morning , so that you can return before it gets dark and also the last shuttle bus from Skjeggedal is around 8pm. It will always be best if you stay one night at the top and camp there , first you can start hike late in the morning then you skip the waiting line for iconic pic on top ๐.
We started our hike approx 11:30am and reached on top approx 7:30pm. we took more time to reach there than expected because we spend more time to enjoy every single moment on hike and also we wanted avoid queue on top. Though hiked in mid June still more than half of the trail of Trolltunga was covered in snow. When we reached on top there were barely 2,3 people waiting for picture so we had full time to enjoy that majestic view and click lots of photos. Now it was the time setup our tent and enjoy the Maggie ๐๐. Next day we started to hike back at 11:30 and reached 3:30 at Skjeggedal.
Here are some fun fact and precautionary-
- Avoid to camp in open area or the area where wind is passing by .. otherwise you will probably end up moving it to another place in mid night like me ๐..first I choose the perfect spot for camp and there was no heavy wind at that time so set up there .. but after 1-2 hrs heavy wind started and have to move our camp to another place .
- Pack light as much as possible.
- Wear quick dry clothes and proper hiking boots and most probably waterproof because you may find damp during the hike.
- Click some beautiful photos on the way but donโt be obsessed with it ๐enjoy the nature ,lake , view.
