Recently, I checked in to the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort for a weekend getaway. Little did I know that the property and the entire experience turned out be so much more!
Getting there: Located on the eight-lane, international standard Yamuna Expressway, the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort is a comfortable driving distance of 45 minutes from central Delhi, and a convenient 10 minutes away from Pari Chowk.
Rooms: The hotel has 170 rooms, comprising three categories—deluxe rooms, deluxe suites and executive suites. I stayed in a golf-view deluxe room, from the balcony of which one can enjoy a splendid view of the sprawling golf course while sipping a cup of tea. The luxurious sunken bathtub in the bathroom overlooks the golf course too!
Food: The hotel has a range of restaurants that cater to every taste and palette. Eggspectation is the 24-hour coffee shop, where most buffet breakfasts and lunches happen. The fine dining options spoil one for choice—there’s Paatra, the Indian restaurant; Ano-Tai, having Oriental cuisine; Enoteca, the Italian Wine bar; and La Brezza, the adjoining Italian specialty restaurant.
My personal favourite was La Brezza, which had some of the most authentic Italian food I’ve ever had! The sous chef has worked internationally, and brings literally a world of experience to the cuisine—something that clearly sets the food apart.
Apart from these, there are also two lounge/bars, Matrix and The Churchill, as well as two in-house patisseries/bakeries, Bakers Studio and Tea Lounge.
Golf course: India’s first 18-hole signature golf course and the only Greg Norman designed course in the country, the Jaypee Greens golf course is spread over 452 acres of land and consists of some of the most picturesque bunkers and water bodies. Needless to say, it’s great for serious and amateur golfers (the likes of Kapil Dev and Madan Lal frequent the course); but it also makes a pleasant golf cart ride or walk for any non-golfer.
The gently rolling fairways resemble carefully manicured and maintained green carpets, and use an imported grass known as Bermuda. Moreover, you can spot a variety of interesting birds here too. Depending on the package, guests at the hotel can avail the services of the golf course during their stay.
Spa: I would say the highlight of the property is its magnificent spa—India’s first ever Six Senses spa. Spread over a whopping area of 90,000 square feet, the spa offers a wide array of holistic therapies and treatments as well as personalized programmes. The spa, that’s located in a relaxing, green environment, includes a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, meditation and relaxation room, gymnasium, yoga class and experiential shower among other wonders.
I took the Six Senses signature spa, which had a range of choices, like Oriental, Deep Tissue, Relaxing, etc. The 50-minute relaxing one, which used calming oil and was not too hard—worked wonderfully well for me, making all my aches and pains disappear into thin air!
Conference facilities & weddings: Through the week, the resort gets a lot of traffic from corporate groups doing meetings, conferences and offsites. To cater to the crowd, the hotel has a number of conference venues, including indoor halls and outdoor spaces. There are also some exquisite locations for weddings—another popular segment at the resort.
Sports complex: The Atlantis Integrated Sports Complex is an indoor sports facility, which is a part of the Jaypee group. It is located at a convenient walking distance from the resort, and also functions as a club for non-guests.
The club has several international indoor and outdoor sports facilities like an Olympic-size swimming pool, a basketball court having an NBA training academy, cricket/soccer field, jogging track, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, squash, badminton, etc.
The complex also offers a comfortable accommodation, a pro shop, toddlers room, café, lounge/bar, and even caters to world-class sporting events and tournaments. Depending on their package, guests at the resort can also avail facilities at the sports complex.
Final verdict: My stay at the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort was full of surprises and new discoveries! With everything from sports, spa, luxury, food, rest and relaxation, there’s nothing more anyone could have ever asked for!
