Are you the traveller who enjoys holiday where all you have to do is “nothing”!! No “To-Do” lists, no historic places to see, no must eats at cafe- Then Welcome to Tirthan valley!!
This was my second visit to Tirthan valley and you can just never get tired of this place. The place has nature in abundance, it doesn’t matter if you have the room with a balcony or a room with a garden because no matter where you stay you will have uninterrupted views of the river and mountains.
Tirthan Valley is about 500 km from Delhi, a 12 hour drive. The valley is the onset of the Great Himalayan National Park. We stayed at Gushani. Two best accommodation options at Tirthan are
- Raju Bharti Cottage
- Tirthan Travel Nest
Raju’s cottage atleast needs 6 month advance booking in holiday season. It has the views, the river and 4 adorable Himalayan dogs on the property. The owners are extremely courteous and go the extra mile to make the guests comfortable.
Rajendra Sing’s Tirthan Travel Nest is a spacious 3 bed room accommodation with amazing views and rooms. The hospitality at This homestay is as good as a five star hotel. We were a group of 9 and we had an amazing time at this property. Each room has a big balcony which looks upon the river and mountains. Tirthan river runs in the backyard, perfect place to drink and chill in the evening. The food at this homestay is delicious, the owners themselves cooked and made us taste some authentic Himalayan delicacies. Must haves here would be Siddu- a steamed stuffed version of Tingmo and Himalayan Trout.
In the same lane as this homestay there is also a cafe “Himalayan Trout” - a meal here is definitely recommended.
We stayed in the valley for 3 nights. All we did was take a stroll in village at night, smaller treks.
Day of Camping in the wild and trekking. Tirthan valley is surrounded by Sirolsar mountain range. We did a small trip up the mountain. Our hosts Rajendra helped us to connect with one of the trekking guides. The quicker way of doing this trek is - they take you by jeep till Jalori Pass, then about 5km trek till Sirolsar lake. The trek is of average difficulty level and would take about 3 hours. Recommendations
- Spend a night in the hills in a tent
- Further trek to Sirolsar lake for views
Got back to Tirthan valley from trek and spend the entire day relaxing.
Leave for Delhi.
