Everything is finally getting back to normal after 2 long years of fighting Covid-19. Many variants and many heartbreaks later we are all now gearing up to live the life we want. On a step to normality, the Central Government has now started regular International flights from 27 March 2022.
On the first day of operations, Delhi and Mumbai Airports handled 173 and 109 international flights respectively.
Summer schedule 2022?
The summer schedule will be effective from March 27 till October 29, 2022. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved a total of 25,309 departures per week from 112 airports in the schedule.
A total of 1,466 international departures for six Indian airlines and 60 foreign airlines of 40 countries including Mauritius, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, LOT Polish, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, the United States of America, Iraq, and others to operate 1783 frequencies to/from India during Summer Schedule 2022.
Why the flights were stopped?
On March 23, 2020, the DGCA had suspended flight operations given the rise in Covid-19 pandemic across the world. This move was to help the country contain the rise in numbers.
In July 2020, overseas flights became operational under bilateral air bubble arrangements with various countries.
What are the new guidelines?
The government has also revised the Covid guidelines for international flight operations, including the removal of the requirement to keep three seats vacant on overseas flights for medical emergencies. The requirement for the crew for having a complete PPE kit has been done away with.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) expects international flight departures to witness a significant jump in the first week of April.
There are a few new airlines which include India Salam Air, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Qantas, and American airline, to begin airline operations with India.
