India Gate is the most iconic monument in India's history that stands tall since many decades. The 42-meter-high archway is located towards the Eastern end of Rajpath. India Gate was built to commemorate the sacrifice of soldiers who died during World War I and Afghan War. INDIA has been scripted in bold letters on either side of the monument. In 1971, following the Bangladesh Liberation war, Amar Jawan Jyoti was established beneath the Memorial Archway, which served as India's Tomb of Unknown Soldier.
