And we can't wait to know what it must be!!
Officials divulged that there is a possibility that Delhi government’s tourist bus service will make a comeback in a new avatar this April.
The decision to hire special buses to initiate “conducted tours” by the tourism department comes months before the G20 conferences are due to be held in the capital. It was stated by the officials that electric buses will be hired from the Delhi Transport Corporation and will run on five to six different pre-decided routes that would cover the city’s monuments, popular markets, shopping malls, food joints, museums and other places.
The service will be similar to the previously functional DTC’s “Delhi Darshan” facility and is no more active. But with one major difference – Delhi darshan used to operate on a single route and covered only seven places of interest but the new bus service will cover different circuits.
The routes will be based on themes and accordingly cover the different types of tourist attractions. The starting point for all the routes will remain the same which would be Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation’s reservation office that is located near the Coffee Home on Baba Kharak Singh Marg and would also be the alighting point after all the places are covered.
The Major Tourist Spots To Be Covered By The Tour Buses Are:
• Chandni Chowk
• Connaught Place
• Janpath Khan Market
• Red Fort
• Old Fort
• Humayun’s Tomb
• Sarojini Nagar Market and Karol Bagh
• Ambience Mall
• National Museum
• Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts
• Gandhi Museum and National Crafts Museums
• India Gate
• War Memorial
• Sunder Nursery
• Nizamuddin Auliya’s Dargah
• Akshardham Temple
• Lotus Temple
• samadhis of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru,
• Qutub Minar
The buses that will ply with the tourists will be branded with the G20 and Delhi Tourism logos giving them a distinct look. There would also be a trained guide onboard the bus to make tourists aware of the history of Delhi and all the historical places when the bus halts at those spots. Decision is yet to be made about the routes and the fare structure.
The government was also considering ‘Hop On Hop Off’ (HOHO) services but skeptical since it had incurred loss when it was introduced during Congress government in Delhi. However, they are not discarding the idea and may some pilot buses on a short route and analyze the response it garners.
