It is believed that during Mughal era Mehrauli was a popular monsoon destination because it has several water bodies, mango orchards and gardens that get greener as rain blesses the city. The initiative is an attempt to revive Mughal emperors’ ancient tradition of visiting Mehrauli during the monsoon season.

Besides, Mehrauli also has numerous monuments and archaeological ruins which makes it a treasure trove of heritage.

Manisha Saxena, secretary (tourism), Delhi government, informed that the state government has asked the Sahitya Kala Parishad to help organise the festival and artists for the cultural performances.

Mehrauli is one of the seven ancient cities that make up the present state of Delhi. While Mehrauli is known mainly for the iconic Qutub Minar, the place definitely has other gems which speak of the glorious history of the city.

Spread over 200 acres in Mehrauli, the Mehrauli Archaeological Park houses over 100 historically important structures. While some of them date back to the 10th century A.D., some are as recent as the British era. This is the only place in Delhi that has witnessed over 1,000 years of continuous habitation.
