Our Delhi adventure began bright and early at 6 am. After securing our luggage at the Delhi Clock Room, we embarked on a whirlwind tour of the city's iconic landmarks.
India Gate: We kicked off our exploration at the majestic India Gate, a towering war memorial commemorating the Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan Wars. We spent two hours marveling at its grandeur, soaking in the historical significance, and capturing memorable photographs.
Red Fort: Next, we journeyed to the magnificent Red Fort, the historical heart of Delhi. This sprawling 17th-century fort, once the seat of Mughal power, offers a glimpse into India's rich past. We explored its grand courtyards, intricate carvings, and imposing walls, feeling the echoes of history come alive.
Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour: To maximize our time, we opted for a convenient hop-on hop-off bus tour for just Rs 200. This allowed us to seamlessly visit several key landmarks:
Gandhi Smriti: The former residence of Mahatma Gandhi, now a museum dedicated to his life and teachings. Here, we learned about his philosophy of non-violence and his role in India's independence movement.
Jama Masjid: One of the largest mosques in India, this architectural marvel boasts intricate details and a serene atmosphere.
Qutub Minar: This towering 73-meter tall minaret, built in the 12th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We ascended the stairs for breathtaking views of the surrounding city and admired the intricate carvings that adorn its facade.
Lotus Temple: Our final stop was the breathtaking Lotus Temple, a modern architectural marvel shaped like a blooming lotus flower. This unique Baha'i house of worship offers a space for peaceful reflection and interfaith prayer. We enjoyed a quick snack of pav bhaji before marveling at its beauty and serenity.
With a final glimpse of the Red Fort, we boarded the metro to New Delhi Station, catching our train back to Mumbai. This whirlwind tour, though brief, provided a taste of Delhi's rich history, diverse culture, and architectural brilliance, leaving us with a lasting impression of this vibrant city.
