Some time back my friends had visited Chandubi Lake and they had described its beauty so much that I made up my mind to pay a visit there during my latest trip home on the eve of Magh Bihu Festival. I had been browsing over the net and got so much mesmerized by its untouched natural beauty that I went direct to Guwahati instead of going home.
After reaching Guwahati I was unable to wait any longer to pay a visit to this beauty of nature. I rang my friends and we collected a few items and just zoomed off the National Highway 37 towards Airport Road. I just rolled the glass of our car and let the fresh air kiss my hair and my cheeks passionately. In Delhi, one can hardly get to breathe in the fresh air. Apart from the fresh gentle air, I also enjoyed the distant Blue Mountains surrounded by wide open fields with some kids playing here and there.
As, we proceeded towards the destination my excitement knew no bounds. As we were nearing, Mother Nature looked more and more pretty. The lush green tea gardens, dense forest and small villages looked like a canvas painted in colours of nature. The calm and peaceful surrounds accompanied by the chirping of birds made me spellbound. We took a boat ride in the lake and even went hiking to the nearby mountains and interacted with the shy locals. Besides the picturesque beauty of nature the kids were amazing. We just had a gala time and we even played cricket with them. We enjoyed our every single minute in Chandubi Lake.
From our tour guide Utpal, we came to know that this fresh-water lake was created by 1897 Assam earthquake. It is situated in the foothills of the Garo hills. Every year, in the first week of January, Chandubi Festival is held where different tribes of Assam and from the neighbouring state Meghalaya come together to celebrate it. In this festival one not only gets a chance to have a closer look at the different cultures and traditions but also grab some lick smacking local foods.
A trip to Chnadubi Lake was really an awesome break for which I had been longing for quite some time. It was really a stress buster.
