Hello Friends! It really feels nice to see you joining in this unforgettable and beautiful journey of North-East which had started 4 days before from Delhi. Having already visited Siliguri, Mirik, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Namchi Char Dham, we are now staying at Summit Golden Crescent Resort and Spa, Gangtok. Today is the day for local sightseeing in Gangtok. We have already covered Enchey Monastary, Bakhtang Water Falls, Tashi View Point and Ganesh Tok. Let's move ahead now.
We had chalked out a circular tour of Sikkim so that we would be able to cover almost all important tourist attractions. The route was something like this:
Lhasa Water Falls
I feel that North East region, because of its peculiar geographical location, specially hills, has hundreds of big and small water falls. Wherever there are hills, there have, to the great delight of tourists, to be water falls also. After Bakhtang water fall and before Ganesh Tok, there was another water fall known as Lhasa Water Fall. Some adventure activities are also available to lure and entertain the visitors.
Hanuman Tok, Gangtok
After paying tributes to Lord Ganesha, we got into our respective taxicabs and a steep uphill journey started from there for Hanuman Tok which must be the highest point in Gangtok at 7200 ft above sea level.
The temple at Hanuman Tok is being managed by Indian Army and you get tea by way of prasad. Besides temple, there is a circular platform at the top affording a 360 degree view of the snow clad mountain peaks.
As soon as we reached car parking, I found a notice board declaring Rs. 5,000/- fine for littering. Perhaps Sikkim is the first state in our country to take such a nice and stern stance against littering. Hope others would follow.
Well, there are two options to reach the temple which is still higher. You can use the stairs or if you are not physically fit to use stairs, a wheel chair friendly ramp is also provided that would take you in front of the temple.
This tablet gives a brief introduction of the Hanuman Temple and highlights its religious importance as a 'wish fulfilling temple'. The legend has it that Lord Hanuman had took a moment's rest here while on his way to Lanka while carrying Sanjeevani herb from Himalayas. Obviously, people have deep faith in this temple which is managed by Indian Army.
Whether you are spiritually inclined or an atheist, Hanuman Tok will leave you spellbound with its beauty. The Kanchenjunga peaks, sometimes hiding behind clouds and all of a sudden revealing themselves are the biggest attraction for everyone.
Hope you have enjoyed this Eastern part of Gangtok. We shall continue our journey further to cover Flower Show, Handloom and Handicrafts Centre, Palzor Stadium and of course Mahatma Gandhi Marg in our next episode. We had planned to visit Nathu La pass and Baba Hardev Singh Temple and Smogo Lake the next day. So, do come back to enjoy the ride with us. Till then, bye bye.
