Munich is the capital of Bavaria. Rich in history and beautiful architecture - gothic and more it is best known for the October fest. What particularly stood out for me were the beer gardens/halls, Haufbrauhaus, central Marienplatz square housing the Neo-gothic Neues Rathaus and the day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle. Let's dive in to the itinerary, accommodation, shopping etc.
1. Marienplatz
It is the main square of the city since historical years till date. Walking into the square one is welcomed by the striking New Town hall building. Bustling with activity it is the site of major events.
2. St Peter's Church
Located in the Marienplatz square it is a roman Catholic Church. It is one of the oldest churches in Munich. One can enjoy spectacular views from the top of the St. Peters tower.
3. Haufbrauhaus
Absolutely loved this place and the vibe! One of the most famous hallmark beer halls and rightly so. A true representation of the Bavarian beer culture. The entrance doesn't give away the world inside. The high ceilings with elaborate frescos and a loud orchestra are super uplifting. Enjoy a pretzel and beer in their huge tumblers. Its amazing how smooth and tasty the beer is. The staff wear traditional clothes. With a lot of history associated with this place it feels very special to be here. This is a top experience to not miss when in Munich!
The castle sitting all pretty atop the ruggedness was built by King Maxmillan for his son Ludwig III. Its claim to fame is that it caught the attention of Disney and is the inspiration behind all its fairy tale castles.
Lately I have a new found appreciation for tourist hop on hop off buses. It is often the first thing I do, it puts all of my research in perspective and I then select the places I want to return to.

2. English Garden
3. Nymphenburg Palace
4. Allianz Arena
5. Victualienmarkt
6. BMW museum
7. Olymipia Park
9. New Town Hall(Neus Rathaus)
10. Old Town Hall
11. Other important places of interest on the route of the blue tourist bus -
A) Deutsches museum
B) Bayerisch Staatsoper/Bavarian state Opera
C) Bavarian National Museum
D) Angel of Peace
E) Odeonplatz
F) The upscale Schwabing street.
G) Leopoldstrabe
Our Airbnb was walking distance from Marienplatz square and hardly any distance from an underground station. Right next to an Indian restaurant Shagun it was simply calling out to us.
Shopping
What to bring back from Munich for self, friends and family? Shop away for silk scarfs or other goodies at Ludwig Beck. You can buy a good quality cuckoo clocks, a useful and beautiful addition to your home. Don't miss picking up some beer glasses from Haufbrauhaus.
Last but not the least amongst the many legends behind the creation of the famous Pretzel the one that most caught my attention was the one involving Frider. Frider was the chef of earl Graf Eberhard V. The earl was massively disappointed in Frider's poor baking skills and the chef was thrown into the dungeon and sentenced to death. But he was given one last chance to overturn the death sentence and to bake something to prove his worth. Hence, was born the pretzel 🥨 that resembled the folded arms of his impatient wife. It won him his old life back.
Best known for the October festival visit Munich for a holiday of a life time. Plan out of the city trips. Munich and the LGBTQ movement have a long tradition and is known for the Pink Christmas market held in Glockenbachviertel since 2005. Maybe slow down a bit and indulge in the fewer things that absolutely amaze you about the culture of this city.
