VADA PAV- The history of this dish, says that Ashok vaidya in 1960 set up a stall outside Dadar station. He was then selling vada and omelet pav. As a result started vada pav street food. On hot cooking oil, spherical batata vada, is sizzled, while vada is made out of potatoes, that they are dipped in chickpea batter and fried. They are stuffed between two parts tossed, turned served hot with, chutney. A must street food to bite, in Mumbai.
-PAV BHAJI- A popular fast food made out of vegetables curry, that they are served with pav cheese, pav bhaji, Jain pav bhaji, paneer pav bhaji and white pav bhaji are the varieties. The history says, it was introduced as a lunch time dish, that today be any part of Mumbai, you would find shops, selling this street food.
-RAGDA PATTICE - It is a light stew, cooked on white peas while Pattice is potatoes mashed and made in cake shape. They are usually served with chopped vegetables and chutney that, one plate makes your light lunch for the day. Their history is unknown but this dish, has been a great part of Maharashtra culture.
-BUN MASKA- They are popularly served in Iranian cafes, in Mumbai. It is a popular tea time snack made with home made flavoured butter. The bun is soft, while Maska is usually made at home.
-BAIDA ROTI- This roti hails from Awadhi region. With beaten egg, the stuffing is shallow fried. Then dough is made out of maida and gram flour, that in the pancakes, ingredients are stuffed and shallow fried on the tava. They are usually served hot, with garlic chutney, that in the evenings, in many parts of Mumbai, you would find Baida roti.
PANAKI- It’s a Gujarati delicacy, made out of rice flour, urad dhal, and spice. It is mainly a breakfast dish, evening snacks sold in Mumbai is something to taste. This food history, is unknown, but they are popularly sold, all over Mumbai.
AKURI- A spicy Parsi cuisine, added to finely chopped ingredients, garnished with spices that egg is the main dish used to cook. It is served with pav and double roti. A yummy street food of Mumbai, that has resemblance to scrambled egg.
ZUNKABHAKAR- It’s a vegetarian traditional dish, prepared out of chickpea flour. This dish is also known as, Pithla. It is a nutritious dish from parts of Sinhagad that is blended with finer, protein and carbohydrates.
KANDA POHA- A popular poha recipe, made out of flattened rice, herbs. This dish is made with potatoes, and onions. They are soft, cooked for minutes that they are very nutritious. Grapes or boiled vegetables are added, that garnishing is done with coriander leaves. An authentic Marathi cuisine found all over Mumbai
KALA KHATTA - A very popular drink of Maharashtra with ice consistency that quenches your thirst completely. The syrup is usually home made, added to spices that sweet, kala khatta is also sold. There are variety flavours of this drink that after chatpat, spicy chaat you should sip this drink.
PANI PURI- Otherwise called as, Golgappa one of the most popular snack of Maharashtra, that exsisted from mahabaratham days. The Puri is deeply fried, filled with masala, potatoes mashed and added to tamarind, coriander water and served. Any street, galli, in Mumbai you can never miss panipuri stalls.
Mumbai popularly called as, Bombay that was derived from Goddess Mumbadevi, that this city was all called as, Kakamuchee, Galajunkja, Monbaym and today Mumbai. Mumbai is an archipelago that Maurya kings were the first rulers. One of the most appealing thing, about this city is abundant, yummy, mouthwatering, street food. Street food plays a major part of their culture. Street food in Mumbai are swiftly, freshly prepared that regarding taste, I have no words but to say, “They are awesome let me taste all over again”.
