I've been to the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus over a dozen times.

While I really admire the architecture, I never noticed that there was a rail heritage museum just beside the entry/exit gate which could allow me to go upstairs and witness the charismatic colonial interiors. Of course, there was a museum; it's a UNESCO world heritage site after all! How did I miss that?

Nevertheless, I got the opportunity to visit the iconic building last week. It's a guided tour by default (all the better).

"The lion and the tiger facing the main road on either side of the pillars at the entrance represent the heritage of British and India respectively," said Gaurav, our tour guide.

The ground floor is a museum with working models of trains, a miniature of the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus station, and information about prominent milestones. Am not a huge fan of the museums, but the architecture...Hell Yes!!

Once I entered the main building I was astonished to see the architectural view right up to the top of the dome.

The huge staircase which starts on the ground floors unveils the intricate details of gothic architecture as you go up to floor by floor.

The colorful windows and doors with stained glass add to its vintage vibe. Overall, I'm really glad I got to go there!

Unfortunately, it's open only on weekdays; Visiting hours are 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. So you cannot add this as things to do in Mumbai this weekend
