You must have heard about e-rickshaws and e-buses running at different places across the country lately. And in this continued attempt at sustainability, India's first electric double-decker bus called Switch EiV 22 was unveiled at Y B Centre in Mumbai on August 18th, 2022 by the Union Transport Minister, Mr. Nitin Gadkari.
The bus is loaded with latest technology, a sleek design, and advanced safety measures. The Mumbai civic transport authority will operate the double-decker bus from September.
The bus can house up to 65 people. Standing passengers can also be accommodated on the lower deck. The bus includes doors in the front and back, as well as steps to the top deck.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) of Mumbai has ordered 200 units that will operate between the Kurla and Colaba depots.
This new and modern medium of transportation would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. We should definitely switch to this sustainable mobility solution.
