Day 1
Elephanta is an island 11km far from the Mumbai coast. It is so named because of a large stone elephant near the shore. Elephanta caves are UNESCO world heritage site; representing the rock cut temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
HOW TO REACH:
First, reach Gateway of India in Mumbai. From here a number of boats go to the island every 30 minutes. Ticket price for both ways is Rs 120 per person and will take approx 1 hour to reach the island. The boat will stop at jetty; 1km from the caves. From here you can walk or take a toy train.
