Thanks to Global Citizen Festival, Coldplay was coming to India, and that had generated a lot of buzz in the country. This was going to be the first performance by the international band in India.
Being an ardent fan of the band, I just had to get my hand on the tickets anyhow. Hence, after participating in some online contests and activities and helping the GCF towards their mission of eliminating poverty, I got hold of a free ticket to the silver zone at the venue - MMRDA Grounds. I instantly booked my tickets and was ready to go.
I reached Mumbai on the morning of the concert and had my return flight the next evening at 4. I wanted to spend some more time in the megacity, whose stories had always charmed me. After reaching my pre-booked guesthouse, I got some much- needed sleep and headed for the concert in the afternoon.
MMRDA ground is a sprawling venue, enough to accommodate the expected crowd of over 1 lakh. The concert started with speeches from various ministers and other personalities, and moved on to performance by Bollywood artists. The only notable performabce I found was of A>R Rahman who enthralled the ground with his tunes of Dil Se, Vande Mataram among others.
But really, Coldplay was what the whole crowd had been waiting for. The much anticipated performance from the band started at 8:30 pm with Chris Martin starting off with a song shot in India - ' Hymn for the Weekend '. The next 3 hours were pure magic. All of their hits, 'Yellow', 'Paradise', 'Viva La Vida' had the crowd grooving to the captivating music, surely an "Adventure of a Lifetime". This is one memory that might take forever to get erased.
