Another temple that I have visited in the Morena district is Garhi Padhavali. Not much documentation was found about the temple but according to ASI, it was built in the 11th century by Kachhapaghata Kings. Many centuries later, Jat rulers built a small fortress (Garhi) around it.

Most of the temples are in ruins. The temple is quite small compared to others in this region. Only the raised platform on which it was built and the entrance canopy still stand. These sections are heavily ornamented with sculptures depicting mythological stories, the daily lives, art and culture of that period of time. In the backside, the ruins of the rest lie around. Restoration work is in progress. If you notice carefully, you can see beautiful sculptures in each broken stone. I couldn't help but wonder how this temple would have looked like in its full glory.

Hands down, Madhya Pradesh has many hidden gems.

In history textbooks in school, we read about Kings and dynasties of India. I wonder often why so many interesting things are left out when all we had to do is mug up only dates!
