Lake Como , or Lago di Como, is one of the famous locations in the Lombardia state of Italy.  This is very close to Milan and takes around 40 minutes by train. (Costing 4.5 euros one way). Lake Como is famous for its unique location , owing to which famous celebrities like George Clooney have their villas here. Overlooking the Italian-Swiss alps , and almost lying on the border of Switzerland, this is really a very beautiful city.

For people who are bored to do something in the Milan and not really interested to shell out a lot of cash, visiting Como can be an plan.

Once you reach this place, you have the option to walk around the city or take the cablecar and go to the top of the mountain in order to have a view of the Lake and the city.

I had made this trip with my Serbian friends during the Christmas of 2013. The town was really nicely decorated with the Christmas market in the centre and quite a lot of excited tourists filling up the city.

We reached this place around 11am in the morning. Travelled around the city for around 1.5 hours , enjoying its bending streets and cobblestoned pathways, this city had its own grandeur speaking volumes in its own way.

We got ourself the lunch from the supermarket and had it by the lake. The chilly winter breeze, along with the sun's rays trying to counter its effect was an amazing feeling.

Around 4, we headed towards the top of the mountain. It took around 5 minutes in the cable car to take us to the top. From there the spiralled path started being our company and guide in the whole session. We were lucky enough to experience an amazingly beautiful sunset over the mountains coupled with the view of the lake from the trip was one sight to enthrall even the toughest nut to crack.  We came down around 7 in the evening to watch the city lit up along with the Christmas decorations.

Got in time to get the train  at 8, and came back to Milan , only to be greeted by the concrete buildings who envied our date with the Nature.

*Advice: Lake Como, Lecco  and the other lakes of Lombardia are one of the best spots for day trips from Milan. Its highly recommendable to visit this place checking the weather ,since a cloudy and dampy day will surely spoil the mood*
