Finding Nevette through Couchsurfing in Traverse City in Michigan was a blessing. Nevette is 56 years old lady, who lives alone in her secluded home, works for 3 days a week in a Casino and rest of the days, loves meeting people, going outdoors for some adventure or camping around beautiful locations. I must say, Americans literally Live their life.
Nevette, gave the access to all her fresh grown vegetables and her own recipe salsa and I must say the best salsa we have ever had.
A wonderful human which makes our belief intact in kindness and humanity.
She hosted us too, and we chose to be in her camper rather than her home. Camper popularly known as RVs(Recreational Vehicles) in the United States which are home on wheels, they are equipped with almost everything you need to feel home while on the wheels. It had a decent bed room, living area, a fully functional kitchen, propane heaters, outdoor fire pits, charcoal griller and propane pole lamps too.
It felt like living out in the wild.
We biked around the farms, wineries, hopped in to historic architecture of the city, explored the creeks, rivers and what not. We also invited our friends the next day
Traverse City is surrounded by lakes on three sides and it has a lot of scope for outdoor adventures in every season. Summers are warm and beautiful, giving a scope for lots of water based activities, cycling/biking around, hopping around the lake side for sunsets or maybe exploring wineries around the city and the farms.
It has beautiful small towns nearby.
Evenings at the camper was exactly like coming out of a beautiful set.
Bon fire lit, under the open sky overlooking stars, grilling some veggies over the charcoal griller, with the sound of the waves from the lake around, tasting some locally made wine, which we picked up from the local wineries the other day.
We could have never experienced this city, had we not got the camper or hold of a local person, to tell us all the secret trails, lending her camper, using her backyard to park and host our friends too at the same time.
So next time, travel slow, meet locals, find a local Couchsurfing host and you would never know the possibilities of an exploration, which could not have happened
Those who don't know, Couchsurfing is a global community of guests and hosts who lend their couch or anything available for free/in exchange of your skill. It's a very active community in India too.
