I have always dreamt of doing a backpacking trip, so this is the closest I had gone. It was the first time that I got on a plane alone, and more importantly, the first time of landing alone at Mexico City. I already "knew" that city. I had the oportunity to visit it quite some time ago, but I really don't put that much attention on how to get from point A to point B. So, there I was, having a panic attack at my room, just 2 hours before getting to the airport, when I just realize that nobody could pick me up at the airport, or even somewhere nearby. I rush to try to find how to get Google maps on my phone, printed a ridiculous small map of the places that I needed to go, where to find my friend over there , and gosh, having the worst chills of my life. I only stayed for three days, but I got the best time of my life: I lost the fear of using the metro and taxi ( next time I hope to use the bus ), I went on a non vacation weekend, so I got the see what its like to go around in one of the biggest cities of the world, I gave myself the opportunity of trying new food, went trought all the Zocalo (downtown) and all the blocks around completely alone and totally free (plus a smile in my face), met people, got my heart broken, and realised that traveling it's my thing to get a full shoot of life back into the routine of school/work.
Tips Tips Tips
- Getting in the metro around or before 8 am? Get ready to get to know whats like to not have personal space, still, do it, it's a good experience.
- Go to Coyoacan, and get a cup of coffee from El jarocho, have it just outside the local or walk one block, have a sit at the plaza and enjoy the beautiful view, the colors , the smell, the music.
- Get to know the Zocale area by day and also by night, you won't regret it.
