Day 1

During my visit to relative in Mehsana,  Gujarat,  I recently got chance to visit Sun Temple,  Modhera. It is 25 km from Mehsana and 80 km from Ahmedabad.

The Sun Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the solar deity Surya. It is situated on the bank of the river Pushpavati. It was built after 1026-27 CE during the reign of Bhima I of the Chaulukya dynasty.

The temple was unique in its historical design and great art of ancient era. Beautiful statues on the walls and roof of temple building were awesome. 1000 year old building having one assembly hall having intricately carved pillars. Other hall is garb griha. Beautiful water body called Ram kunda was eye catching. It
is a gorgeous archaeologically preserved site with guides available on request. The sculptures on the walls are filled with stories and the step well houses turtles and fishes.
The main temple is no longer used for prayers, although there is a tiny temple on the side that might be used for the same.
This place is definitely worth many visits
