Day 1

Arrival in Shillong - The Abode of Clouds

After weeks of anticipation, our adventure to Meghalaya finally began as we landed in Guwahati. With our backpacks and spirits high, we hopped into a comfortable vehicle and embarked on a scenic drive to Shillong, the charming capital known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture.

As we entered Shillong, we were greeted by the stunning Ward's Lake. The morning sun reflected on the serene waters, creating a tranquil atmosphere. We took a leisurely stroll around the lake, admiring the blooming flowers and the graceful swans gliding across the water.

In the afternoon, we headed to Police Bazaar, the heart of Shillong's bustling markets. The colorful stalls showcased traditional handicrafts, tempting us to take a piece of Meghalaya's craftsmanship back home. We savored local delicacies at a nearby eatery, our taste buds delighted by the unique flavors of the region.

The highlight of the day was our visit to the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures. This cultural treasure trove provided us with valuable insights into the diverse tribes of Meghalaya. From traditional costumes and musical instruments to intriguing artifacts, the center offered a glimpse into the rich heritage of the indigenous communities.

After a day filled with exploration and learning, we retired to our cozy hotel in Shillong, excited for the adventures that awaited us.

Day 2

Mawlynnong & Dawki - Nature's Masterpieces

The second day brought us to Mawlynnong, a village known for its pristine beauty and being the cleanest in Asia. Our first stop was the awe-inspiring living root bridge. As we walked on this natural wonder, the intertwined roots seemed to whisper tales of a bygone era when communities worked hand in hand with nature to build these bridges.

The journey continued to the village of Dawki, where the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River left us spellbound. Boarding a boat, we floated on the translucent waters, marveling at the breathtaking scenery around us. The riverbed appeared so close beneath our boat that it almost felt like we were gliding on air.

The evening sun painted the landscape in golden hues as we bid farewell to Mawlynnong and Dawki, their beauty forever etched in our hearts.

Day 3

Cherrapunjee - Land of Waterfalls & Caves

Cherrapunjee, also known as Sohra, awaited us on the third day. The scenic drive to this rain-soaked region was a visual treat, with lush greenery stretching as far as the eye could see.

Our first stop was Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. The water cascaded down the cliff, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Standing at the viewpoint, we felt dwarfed by the sheer power of nature.

Next, we visited the Seven Sisters Falls, a unique formation where seven waterfalls merged harmoniously. The sight was so breathtaking that we couldn't help but capture numerous photos to preserve the memory.

Our caving adventure began with a visit to Mawsmai Cave. The dark, mysterious passages led us deep into the earth, with unique stalactites and stalagmites adorning the cave's walls. It was an exhilarating experience to explore the underworld of Meghalaya.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, we returned to our cozy hotel in Cherrapunjee, reminiscing about the day's awe-inspiring encounters with nature.

Day 4

Trek to Double Decker Living Root Bridge & Rainbow Falls

On the fourth day, we embarked on a trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat. The journey led us through dense forests, quaint villages, and picturesque landscapes. With each step, we felt more connected to the untouched beauty of nature.

Reaching the living root bridge was a surreal experience. The natural architecture stood firmly, a testament to the symbiotic relationship between humans and the environment. We spent time marveling at this magnificent creation and reflecting on the ingenuity of the Khasi tribes.

In the afternoon, we continued our trek to the Rainbow Falls. As the sun played hide-and-seek with the clouds, a rainbow arched over the waterfall, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The cool, misty waters invited us to take a refreshing dip, and we gladly obliged, soaking in the magical atmosphere.

After an adventurous day of trekking and nature's wonders, we returned to Cherrapunjee, cherishing the memories we had made.

Day 5

Farewell, Meghalaya - Kamakhya Temple Blessings

On the final day of our journey, we bid farewell to the captivating landscapes of Meghalaya. As we drove back to Guwahati, we couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions—grateful for the unforgettable experiences and sad to leave this enchanting land behind.

Before departing, we paid a visit to the sacred Kamakhya Temple, seeking blessings for safe travels and cherishing the spiritual energy that enveloped the revered site.

With hearts full of wanderlust and memories to last a lifetime, we embarked on our journey back home, knowing that Meghalaya had left an indelible mark on our souls. The beauty, warmth, and hospitality of this northeastern gem would forever hold a special place in our hearts, inspiring us to explore more of the world's hidden treasures in the days to come.
