Awesome place to visit in weekends .... U can plan ur trip for weekend days of 2 or 3 .... And it's not cost more also.... N if you are planning for only day trip than also this is the greatest place ....for reach there ... From Borivali I went to Dadar n from there I take the Karjat local to reach Neral ...n from neral there is 2 options to go to matheran 1st is most famous toy train ,, and 2nd one is taxicabs.... If you are bringing some food with you than well and good.... N not bringing than its ok coz food's rate are very normal .... So....
