Rani Sui is a beautiful alpine trek near Manali. The trail begins at Manali Wildlife Sanctuary and continues through dense forest filled with Maple, Birch and Pine trees. I have visited this place many times through different seasons. Lama Dugh is the first camping spot from where you can see the whole of Manali town.
On the second day the trail is steep and narrow at some point and after crossing the rhododendron forest, you come across an open area. From this point on, there is no tree cover with less vegetation. The trek then traverses through several hills to finally reach Saurkundi Pass. 360 degrees view of Dhauladhar range is simply mesmerizing.
From the pass, we take left and get down through meadows to reach the lake. Rani Sui is a small lake with muddy water. The altitude is 13,000 feet and if you are at the right time of the year, you may well witness the milkyway galaxy at night.
