Soneva Fushi resort in Maldives is looking for someone who loves to read and loves social media, to run their pop-up book shop for a year starting October 2022 and the barefoot bookseller (yes!! That's the designation) will get to stay in a $36,500 dollar a night villa which is equivalent to a whopping INR 29,01,366.75 !!!!!!

Soneva Fushi Resort, a 5-star private island resort located in one of the largest islands in Maldives - Kunfunadhoo island an ecological treasure, which is nestled in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This resort offers one a kind experience where every visitor is provided a drawstring bag on arrival and encourage to deposit their shoes into it. The idea is to leave behind the stress and enjoy the entire island barefoot! This resort provides Robinson Crusoe-style laidback luxury with modern amenities but with sustainable means.

In 2018, in partnership with Ultimate Library it opened its First Pop-Up Bookshop in Maldives. This job vacancy is for the ultimate bibliophile who eats, drinks, dreams and breathes books! Not only that the ideal candidate should be equally engaging with the guests of all ages and fit into the unique Soneva culture.

Why Was It Named “Barefoot Bookseller”?

Soneva Fushi Resort has a strict “no shoes, no news” rule that led to the “barefoot” part of the “barefoot bookseller” title!

Pay-out For The Job

Meals, accommodation, and a monthly stipend.

The monthly stipend is $750 but the “expensive” fringe benefit is that the bookseller will get to live in a villa which usually costs $36,500 a night!!!!

Twelve months / One Year

When Can You Apply

Although the last date for submission of Job Application for 2022 is on the 13th of August 2022, but due to large number of applications, they have closed the position for this year.

But this is a yearly thing, and you can apply next year. You got to keep a close watch on when they open the position.

Job Application Pre-requisites

Only those applications would be considered which will be in drafted in English.

• Candidate needs to have excellent written & verbal English skills.

• Should love to read & have in-depth knowledge of both classical and modern literature.

• Essential to have had prior experience in bookselling or publishing.

• Have strong knowledge of running social media pages, know and follow the current trends.

• Candidate should have experience in writing blogs or newsletters.

• Is willing to be a team player and self-starter with a sense of fun and creativity.

• Would be an added advantage if candidate has experience in creative writing, photography and tutoring.

Job Description

• Apart from running the shop, also engage with guests and hosts and sales management.

• Keep a record on sales and manage stocks and report on the same.

• Host classes on creative writing, bibliotherapy, tutoring (Ages 9-18) and literary lectures for the guests.

• Run the social media account for “Barefoot Bookseller”.

• Write monthly blogs and create entertaining and informative newsletters.

• Liaising for potential events and collaborations with Ultimate Library & Soneva marketing teams.
