It was more than thirty minutes past sunset, I kept staring into the pearl skies and the endless sea, lost in deep thoughts when Swagatika interrupted me.

There is something about the sunsets in Maldives; it gives me a deep sense of positive solitude. We set up our bean bags on the shore, enjoying post-sunset vibes, talking about random things in life- away from the city, work and all the routine hustle and bustle.

Maldives... This island country is way more beautiful than I would've ever imagined. There are about a hundred islands developed as resorts, each one different from the other. The color of the water mesmerized me.... It is crystal blue when the sun shines, pale blue during the sunset, vivid blue in the middle, turquoise blue near the shore and so many other shades in between. I'd never seen so many shades of blue.

The clear water gives clear glimpses of marine life. Just sit on a pier for fifteen minutes and you can see at least fifty varieties of fish and other sea creatures.

We spent our days island-hopping, dolphin watching, snorkelling and shopping on local islands. Some days, we'd start our day with Aqua yoga, build sand castles, go shell picking along the shore and take sunset dips in the Indian Ocean. Nights were incredibly entertaining with endless music and learning new dance moves from people from all over the world.

Here are few tips to keep in mind if you are planning to visit the Maldives

Visa:

This Beautiful Tourist country offers a friendly visa policy to most of the countries. For Indians, the Visa is on Arrival.

Stay options:

Resorts are the most common option in Maldives. All resorts offer pickup and drop to the airport for a fee. They also organize daily activities, musical nights and engage their clients in many ways.

If you are looking for inexpensive options, the locals can host you. Check out options on Airbnb... Nothing can beat staying with locals and enjoying this beautiful country like a local ????

Currency:

Though the currency in Maldives is Rufia, all the resorts and local stores accept dollars. I highly recommend carrying dollars before leaving for the Maldives, as the currency exchange is a little difficult after landing. If you have a Forex card or a card with less conversion cost, there's nothing like it.

How to dress:

Swimwear is allowed in the resort, but if you wish to visit the capital city or any islands inhabited by locals, dress modestly. Try to go in fully covered clothes as a token of respect to their local culture.
