The Maldives is doing so much in preserving the sea turtle population of the world especially as all of the main species reside in its waters. Here’s how you can join in the conservation.
1. Visiting the Lhaviyani Atoll
Many Maldives island resorts work tirelessly to make sure that their turtle population, as well as other marine creatures, are protected as climate change makes it harder on these creatures to eke out an existence. The Lhaviyani Atoll is one such place.
2. The Sea Turtle Course
You can take part in sea turtle courses to meet hawksbill and green sea turtles in their natural habitat.
3. Diving in Kuredu Caves
Diving in the Kuredu Caves requires a PADI qualification. It is home to the Maldives’ largest green sea turtle population.
4. Turtle Explorer in North Male
If you are out and about in North Male, it is the best place to spot juvenile Olive Ridley turtles.
5. Daily Turtle Excursions
Five out of the seven major species of turtles can be found in the Maldives and its daily turtle excursions give you chances of spotting them.
