You will notice in pictures, that the Maldives features sun-kissed beaches with white sand instead of yellow. The reason for this is that, unlike typical beaches, the sand here is of coralline origin instead of quartz. Only around 5% of the world’s beaches feature this kind of sand and it makes for some gorgeous Insta pics too!

When it comes to exploring the Maldives, attractions can be found beneath the waves too; the Indian Ocean waters surrounding the country is home to over 2,000 species of fish. It’s no surprise that snorkelling and diving are so popular with a chance to see everything from cute clownfish to majestic manta rays!

Numerous Islands

Instead of being made up of one large landmass, this destination features around 1,190 islands spread across 26 atolls; while this is a remarkable fact, keep in mind that most of these islands are uninhabited. The rest are either used for local cities or villages, while resorts in Maldives are each on a separate private island!

Alcohol Ban on Local Islands

Being a Muslim nation, the Maldives has strict regulations when it comes to alcohol; you can’t bring it into the country and it’s banned from being sold or consumed on local islands. But do not despair; this law does not apply to private island resorts where alcohol including cocktails can be savoured amidst coastal tranquillity!
