Matheran is a 4 hr journey by train from Kurla - Neral - Matheran . The ticket costs Rs 265 one way. From Neral station, taxis will take you till the base of Matheran. Post which you will need to take the toy train or walk up the mountain. Word of caution : Loads of Monkeys ahead and they are not scared to grab anything they may consider food from your hand, head, bag whatever. So careful while you walk up. There are loads of view points in Matheran, loads of waterfalls and innumerous number of insects. Especially the dragonflys are so pretty and colorful, make sure you look for them if you enjoy photography. The air in Matheran is super clean and fresh as no Vehicles are allowed here. If you don't particularly enjoy walking a lot, there are loads of horses that can be hired. So gallop away.
Matheran is a must Visit place if you are in and around Mumbai.
