Naneghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats and is around 150 kms from Mumbai.
We started our journey from Kalyan around 10 AM. We boarded a bus to Ahmednagar. The starting point of the trek is around 5 kms after Tokawade village and is not a designated bus stop. You will have to request the conductor to stop at that point.
After 2 hrs, the conductor informed us that we have reached our stop. If you are coming by your own transport, look for the sign shown in the picture below.
There is one food stall at the base. The next one is after 75 mins.
The view of the top from the base.
The route till the second food stall.
After 75 mins we reached the second food stall which is located at a small flat area. After this, it is only rock steps.
The views while climbing up.
Finally after 2 hrs from the second stall, we reached the top. We reached the top at 3 PM.
At the top, there is a cave. There are inscriptions in the cave which gives you the directions on how to cross this pass.
You will be suprised to see lots of people at the top. The top is accessible by road from Junnar.
The view from the top is memorizing. From there we went to the reverse waterfall which made the hike more rewarding. The waterfalls is around 20 mins from the cave.
After visiting the waterfall, it is time to start the descent. Here comes the crazy part. Instead of trekking down, we decided to take the road to Junnar. After asking few people, one uncle who was running a tea stall on his van agreed to drop us at the highway. He said, for 1500 rupees he will pack up his stall straight away and drop us on his van. We agreed to the price and jumped in onto the back of the van.
First stop was his village where he offloaded all his shop items. The village was calm with lots of children playing.
After 15 mins, we started the road trip down hill. It was one hell of a ride. The roads were very bad. We were jumping up and down at the back of his van.
After jumping for 1hr 45 mins we reached the highway. From the highway, we took a bus to Kalyan at 6:30 PM. We finally reached Kalyan at 9:30 PM.
