Day 1

Torna fort is located in western Maharashtra in a base village known as velhe which is around 50km from Pune City. The fort is at an elevation of 1403m above sea level, making it the highest hill-fort in the district The Pune Satara Highway forks of at Nasarapur. One should take the connecting Nasarapur road to reach the Fort.

So we started our trip at around 6am from Pune on a Sunday. The weather was perfect with light showers and pleasant breeze.

On the way we stopped at two places for a quick break out of which one was Yewle chai(tea) as some people of my group are really fond of it. The total time to reach the base village velhe was approximately 2 hours and since we started early so we did avoid most of the traffic.

The sight of the fort from the base point was mesmerizing with grey clouds covering it and giving us some major trek goals .😆

We started from the parking lot saving around 25% of trekking time. After covering around 50% of the hike, the trek gets pretty steep and for safety, railings are installed on the edges of the trek path(they are not very strong though) One needs to be extra careful during the rainy season as the rocky patches get extremely slippery. We were lucky that it wasn't raining at the time we were climbing the hills.

On the way to the top of the fort there were two or three small shops(tapri) which had lemon juice(nimbu pani) and Kanda Poha as refreshments. Also, there were a group of monkeys covering the start of the railings which made the hike more fun but dangerous at the same time. One must keep all the eatables inside and avoid carrying anything. They really can attack for the things in your hand😋.

After hiking for two hours approx we finally reached the top of the fort . The view was exceptionally spectacular from the top with cold breeze and little rays of sunshine.

We relaxed and stretched ourselves for sometime, had Poha chai and nimbu Pani again as it was the only thing available at that time.

While coming down from the fort the difficulty level increased as it was steep and little slippery because of the small stones and mud all over the hill. After 1.40 hrs of walking with one break in between we completed the Trek with utmost satisfaction and happiness.😄

Some piece of advice for the people who are planning to go there-

Please wear comfortable shoes as during the rainy season it becomes really slippery.

Also , carry as much water as u can as the hike duration is long and you will feel thirsty.

Happy Hiking 😀!!!
