Good news for Mumbaikars. Konkan will be a quick weekend getaway as the new Sindhudurg Airport opens for the first time to welcome travellers. Alliance Air has announced the first set of flights between Mumbai and Sindhudurg from 9th of October. For those who dread long drives, this is an opportunity to explore the hidden gems of Konkan of which Sindhudurg is a playground of adventures and rich in historical and cultural heritage. Let's take a run through on the airline schedule planning.
This is the flight schedule
As per media reports, Alliance airlines (regional arm of Air India) shall operate daily-direct air services to the Chipi airport in Sindhudurg starting October 9, 2021. The official name of the airport is yet to be announced. The flight from Mumbai will take off at 11.35am, touching down in Sindhudurg at 1pm. Return flights will leave at 1.25pm, arriving in Mumbai at 2.50pm. Chipi airport is one of the greenfield airport planned by IRB Infrastructure Developers.
The 70-seater ATR 72-600 aircraft will run under RCAS-UDAN (regional connectivity) control which ensures a certain minimum number of flights using the air space. Also, exciting is the all-inclusive inaugural fare of Rs 2,520 for the Mumbai-Sindhudurg flight.
What more to expect in a round-up trip
The new airport is 20 kms from Tarkali—the seaside town for travellers who want a blissed-out beach break and underwater adventures. If an extended weekend is on the row, a trip to north Goa from the new airport will take barely 60 kms. Set out for Tiracol, Arambol and Mandrem for crowd-free cleaner beaches, secluded retreats and bucolic views — perfect setting for a beach holiday post-lockdown. Before Goa, you must explore Malvan, another untouched side of Konkan revered for its unexplored beach towns.
