Sondai fort is a part of the matheran mountain range but is less crowded as it is still an offbeat destination for trekkers but from the last couple of years, it has become very famous among trekkers.

Sondai fort is the best and ideal trek for the beginners and the first timers.

Sondai fort height : 365 mtr or 1200 ft.
Location : it is located around 100 km from Mumbai and 80 km from Pune.
Base Village : Sondewadi, located around 12 km from the Karjat railway station.
Nearest Railway Station : Karjat

How to reach the base village :
Take a train to karjat/Khopoli, get down at karjat railway station, and hire a private auto to the base village of sondai fort. Auto charges 100 rupees/per person.

There is a small temple of goddess Sondai on the top of the Sondai fort.
Sondai fort derived its name from Sondai devi.
The fort provides a great 360° view of surrounding mountains which comprises green landscapes and foggy pinnacles.

Sondai fort was used as a watchtower in ancient times.
The fort has few water tanks that were used to store water for the soldiers and residents.
The trek path becomes slippery during monsoon so be careful while trekking.

Sondai fort provides amazing view of Irshalgad, Morbe dam, Matheran mountain range, Prabalgad fort, Karnala fort, Songiri fort and Rajmachi fort.

The fort offers a peaceful and serene atmosphere, making it a perfect place for a weekend getaway.
