Rajmachi Fort Trek: Before The Sunrise, Into The Wild

It was dark when we started our journey to unfold yet another adventure. Rajmachi (Undewadi) is a small village in the rugged mountains of Sahyadri in India.

The fortification at Rajmachi consists of two forts namely, Shrivardhan fort and Manaranjan fort. This is a very famous fort located near two famous hills of Maharashtra , Lonavala and Khanadala.

This has become one of the famous trek destinations in the Sahyadri mountains and one of the favorite destination for every trekker and beginners. It's height is about 2750 feet and it overlooks the Bhorghat Pass.

This fort was built by the Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji in the 17th century. Rajmachi can be reached from two routes: first from Lonavala and the other being the Karjat route.

The fort had played a strategic role in the First Anglo-Maratha War. It has been declared as a protected monument.

How To Reach Rajmachi Fort:

By Road:

Lonavala is the nearest city to the Rajmachi fort. It is a famous hill station it is well connected by road. If you are starting from Pune, reach Lonavala by using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway if coming by car or use the old Mumbai-Pune highway if coming by bike. After reaching Lonavala head towards Nandgaon > Fanasrai > Valvand > Udhewadi and reach to the fort.

If you are starting from Mumbai then start going towards Panvel by using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. After reaching Lonavala head towards Nandgaon > Fanasrai > Valvand > Udhewadi and reach to the fort.

By Train:

Lonavala is the nearest railway station to the Rajmachi fort. Lonavala is one of the important station and there are ample amount of trains available to reach Lonavala from both, Mumbai and Pune.

You can start from Pune station or Shivaji Nagar and take up the locals to reach Lonavala if starting from Pune. From Mumbai you can take local travelling to pune from almost any station and you can reach Lonavala.

Once you reach Lonavala station, you can hire a taxi or cab to reach Rajmachi fort.

By Air:

The Pune International Airport at Lohegaon and the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport are the two most nearest airport to reach Rajmachi fort. From the airport one can opt for a taxi or cabs to reach to the Rajmachi fort.
