More about Rajgad

Rajgad fort is situated in Pune district of Maharashtra, India. In Marathi name "Rajgad" means Kings Fort and as the name suggest this fort was one the favorite fort of King Chatrapati Shivaji, he spend most of his life time on this fort.

This place is about 60 km away from Pune and 210 km from Mumbai. This fort was capital of Shivaji Maharaj's kingdom, the capital was later shifted to Raigad.

Things to know

There are different routes to reach Rajgad, but the most frequent route which trekkers prefer is Gunjvane Village route via "Chor Darwaja" which takes 2 to 3 hours. One of the easiest way but the longest is via Vajeghar-Pali. One more way is via Alu Darwaja from bhutonde but this door remains close in Monsoon because of safety reason. We choose Gunjavane route as we find it is easily reachable from Pune.

Difficulty level: Medium

Height: 4520 feet

How to go:

Day before trek I came to Pune at my friends place, she only made this plan. In the morning 6 am we left for Rajgad village in our private vehicle. It took us pretty 1 and half hour to reach at base village. We did breakfast at one small hotel in base village. Toilet facility is available in base village so we get fresh there and started walking towards Fort.

On the way to Rajgad

we started our trek from this beautiful base village and started moving towards the fort. The route is mesmerizing and full of green in monsoon. The muddy road, rain water, lush green hills it was all peaceful and meditating me. we clicked so many pictures on the way to fort.
