Jobs fill your pockets, but adventures fill your soul

We feel the most liberated in the outdoors. For those who are looking for a day trek to a fort in Maharashtra, you must visit Peb Fort (Vikatgad). This fort is located at Neral & is a part of the Matheran hill range. Matheran is almost 8km from Neral & is the nearest town to reach the fort. It is well connected by rail and road.
The best time to visit this fort is during monsoons. We visited in September month and luckily the weather was very pleasant. It was sunny and at times cloudy. There was a cool breeze and a peaceful environment. Simply can’t believe that such scenic sights are just a few kilometers away from the city.
For those of you who love the adventures and are looking forward to experiencing something new, visit to Peb Fort will be worth of experience. This trek is moderately difficult. Also, make sure you carry enough water and food along with you. We recommend carrying at least 2 bottles, each of 1-litre capacity.
How to reach Peb fort :
From Neral station walk towards Matheran Taxi stand & board a taxi for Peb fort NM158 route. Drop at this point and walk towards the track point to reach the fort. The rail track route is the easiest way to reach Peb fort than any other route. It takes about 3 hours to reach the fort.
(There are two routes to reach the fort – one is through Fanaswadi village and other is taking a toy train route.)
The pathway is very narrow. Many trees are surrounding the route. The entire area of hills is covered with seasonal dense forest and huge rocks. There are iron ladders wherever the rocks are steep. It takes about an hour to reach the entrance stairs of the fort. Matheran hills have deep valleys with many waterfalls you can see during the trek. There are so many routes that even we are amazed every time we go exploring. Some locations have our hearts.
You need to be cautious of snakes and reptiles as we found few during the trek. There is a temple dedicated to Peb Devi on top of the fort. And on one side there is a Ganesha statue on beautifully painted on rocks, one can see while coming back on the way to Matheran.
While descending the mountains the route is very tricky. Remember not to be in a hurry to reach down. Just keep it slow as there are chances of landslides. We had experienced landslides approx 5-6 times. Not all the treks are smooth but if you keep your spirits high and stay positive, descending is equally rewarding.
Clear skies, green surroundings, cool breeze, and perfect weather. We were completely blown away by its beauty. Matheran is truly a beauty!
There is a joy in experiencing what trailing through the forest looks like. We hope to visit Peb fort again.
This is a must visit trek for avid nature lovers!
