Starting today, the state of Maharashtra will be under a strict night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am, along with observing section 144, and ban on gatherings of more than five or more people. The state will also be under complete lockdown on the weekends, that is from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am, as reported by the media.
In recent light of events, that is the spike in Covid cases in the Indian state of Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena government has rolled out a new set of restrictions to be imposed on the state.
Read below to know about Maharashtra's new Covid-19 guidelines:
1. Imposition of Section 144 and night curfew
From 7 am to 8 pm on the weekends, no more than 5 people can gather in a public place or move together
From 8 pm to 7 am on the weekends, no one must travel or move in a public place without a valid reason or permission granted below
Medical and other essential services will be exempted from the above rules and their movements will be unrestricted
Following are the inclusions in essential services:
a. Hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic centres, medical insurance offices and other medical and health services.
b. Groceries, vegetable shops, bakeries, confectioneries, and other food shops.
c. Trains, autos, public buses and taxis - Public Transport
d. the function of offices related to Diplomats of various countries
e. Pre-Monsoon activities by local authorities
d. All public services by local authorities
e. Transportation of goods
f. Agriculture related activities
g. E-Commerce
h. Accredited media
What if you are travelling to Maharashtra? Or travelling to another state? Is that allowed?
Yes, both inter-state and out-of-state travel is permitted during the curfew hours. A boarding pass/ E-ticket is enough. Public transport is allowed throughout.
2. Outdoor Activity
All the beaches, gardens, public grounds to remain closed from 8 pm to 7 am on the weekdays and from 8 pm on Fridays to 7 am on Mondays.
Visitors to follow strict Covid appropriate behaviours in public spaces between 7 am to 8 pm on the weekdays.
Local authorities to ensure all the rules are followed, if not they can shut down the place.
3. Shops, Markets and Malls
All the markets and shops will be closed throughout, except for providing essential services.
4. Public transport
Rickshaws must only have 2 people apart from the driver.
Taxis (four-wheelers) can have a driver and up to 50% of the seating capacity.
Buses can have full seating occupancy as per the RTO passing, no standing passengers allowed.
5. Offices
All private offices to remain closed except the following:
a. Cooperative, PSU and Private Banks
b. BSE/ NSE
c. Electrical supply related companies
d. Telecom service providers
e. Insurance/ Mediclaim companies
f. Pharmaceutical companies
All government office to function with 50% attendance, except offices that require a response to the Covid-19 pandemic can work with 100% offices. No visitors will be allowed at government offices or companies.
6. Private transport
Private vehicles including private buses can function normally from 7 am to 8 pm on Monday to Friday. Also, for essential services and emergencies from 8 pm to 7 am on Monday to Friday and 8 pm Friday to 7 am Monday.
No standing passengers allowed on private buses.
7. Recreation and entertainment
Cinema halls, drama theatres, auditoriums to remain closed.
Amusement parks, water parks, arcades, video game parlours to remain closed.
Clubs, swimming pools, gyms and sports complexes to remain closed.
Shooting for films, ads, TV serials:
a. Shooting of scenes with a large number of people must be avoided
b. All the staff engaged in shooting must carry an RT-PCR negative report, valid for 15 days. This will be mandatory from 10th April 2021.
8. Restaurants, bars and hotels
All restaurants and bars to remain closed except the ones in integral parts of a hotel or inside a campus.
Take away orders, parcels and home delivery services to be allowed from 7 am to 8 pm on Monday to Friday. On weekends only home delivery services will be permitted from 7 am to 8 pm.
9. Places of worship
All places of worship will remain closed.
10. Barber shops/ Beauty parlours/ Salons/ Spas
All spas, salons, beauty parlours and barber shops to remain closed.
11. Newspapers
Newspapers can be printed and circulated, home delivery will be allowed between 7 am to 8 pm.
12. Schools and Colleges
All schools and colleges to remain closed.
All private coaching classes to remain suspended.
13. Religious/ Social/ Political/ Cultural functions
No religious, social, political or cultural functions of any kind to be allowed.
Marriages to be allowed with a maximum of 50 people, the engaging staff must be vaccinated or carry a negative RT-PCR certificate.
Funerals to be allowed with a maximum of 20 people, the engaging staff must be vaccinated or carry a negative RT-PCR certificate.
14. Roadside food vendors
No serving of food to be allowed on the streets. Take away and parcels are permitted.
The government has suggested for all involved to serve the public to get vaccinated as soon as they can to lift the restrictions and curb the spread of the virus.
