It was almost more than one year since I did any trek. So, what better than easy grade one day trek to start with. We reached Karnala by 7:00 AM in personal vehicle. We were joined by other group members by 7:30 AM. There were 5 children aged from 9 years to 15 years also in our group along with their parents. I was expecting less crowd but was surprised to see many people. Weather was pleasantly cold.
Karnala is in outskirts of Mumbai and it is popular bird sanctuary. It is heaven for bird watchers as there are around 140 species of birds found here. Karnala fort is at approx 445 mtrs above sea level. Regular autos ply from Panvel station. They charge around INR 250. One can reach Panvel station by Ola/Uber since Mumbai's lifeline local is not yet allowed for general public.
After taking ticket we started our trek by 8:00 AM . We took break in between as we were stunned by majestic view of dense forest as well nearby ranges. Climate was also supporting us as it was cloudy and there was cool breeze. We reached top by 10:00 AM and had breakfast. Be aware of monkeys as there are lots of them. Also, whatever stuff you bring, ensure you don't leave anything there, especially plastic. Always carry reusable water bottle.
We started descent around 11:15 AM and reached base by 12:30 PM. There is canteen at base where you can have lunch at reasonable rates. I had vada pav and nimbu pani and headed back to home.
