Embarking on a 2-day road trip, I eagerly set off from Pune, filled with excitement and a desire to explore the hidden gems that awaited me. The itinerary included iconic landmarks such as Tikona Fort, Pawna Lake, Wageshwar Temple, and Bhaja Buddhist Caves. With my camera gear ready, I embarked on a journey that would forever be etched in my memory.
Day 1
Began with an early morning start as I hit the road at 8 am. After a pleasant drive of about one and a half hours, I reached the campsite where I set up my base and left most of my luggage behind. Equipped with only my tripod, mobile, and camera lens, I felt liberated and ready to capture the essence of my surroundings.
My first destination was Tikona Fort, an adventure-filled off-road ride away from the campsite. Upon reaching the trekking starting point, I discovered a cluster of small cafes offering much-needed refreshments. Savouring a hot bowl of Maggi noodles and sipping on delightful tea, I replenished my energy before embarking on the trek.
As I began the trek, I realized I was the sole adventurer on this path, giving me a sense of solitude and freedom. The stunning landscapes that unfolded before my eyes were a photographer's paradise. I captured the beauty through my lens, immortalizing the rugged terrain and breathtaking vistas.
After a 40-minute trek, I stumbled upon the oldest small temple dedicated to Vitandeshwar (Lord Shiva). Spending precious moments there, I felt a renewed sense of vigor and enthusiasm to continue my trek. Reaching the peak of Tikona Fort at 2 pm, I battled the scorching sun, embracing the view that stretched out before me.
The descent back to the starting point was swift, taking only 30 minutes. I indulged in a delicious lunch at a small restaurant, taking a moment to rest and reflect on the incredible journey so far. By 4 pm, I returned to the campsite, greeted by a refreshing cup of tea and a mouthwatering sandwich.
As the sole camper for the night, I found solace in the tranquil ambiance of the campsite. The friendly and polite staff made my stay even more enjoyable. Capturing the essence of the campsite in my photographs, I headed towards the nearby lake to witness a mesmerizing sunset—a moment that painted the sky with hues of Red and Purple.
After dinner and a relaxed evening of Netflix, I retired for the night, cherishing the solitude and peace that enveloped me. The following morning, I awoke to the call for tea, savoring the morning calm. Eager for a boating experience, I made my way to the lake but was met with the realization that weekdays offered no such activities.
Day 2
After freshening up and bidding farewell to the campsite, I made my way to Wageshwar Temple, immersing myself in its spiritual ambiance. From there, I continued my journey towards Bhaja Buddhist Caves via Kamshet, encountering various terrains along the way.
Arriving at Bhaja Buddhist Caves, the scorching afternoon sun challenged my endurance. However, the caves' historical and cultural significance made it all worthwhile. Exploring the intricate carvings and architectural marvels, I marveled at the ancient wisdom preserved within those walls.
With my heart full of memories and my camera filled with precious snapshots, I embarked on the return journey home. Driving along the Mumbai-Satara Highway, I reflected on the serenity, adventure, and cultural immersion that defined my solo trip.
This road trip was not merely a physical journey but a personal odyssey of self-discovery, connecting with nature, and uncovering the rich history of the region. As I arrived home, I carried with me the essence of those remarkable places, forever grateful for the experiences that shaped my soul.
