Our Igatpuri trip happened so spontaneously that we regretted it by the end of the day for not planning it thoroughly. Truefact was I havent heard abt this place in my 3 years of stay in Mumbai till then. My friend come down to Igatpuri for a training there. So we decided to meet and i tagged my friends along for the trip.
Igatpuri is situated much above the sea-level than Mumbai. The railway station, shops, main streets are at the bottom of the hill. There is no shops or eateries once you started ascending along the road. Store some food and water in your backpack it will come handy later.I have been to Lonvala many times during weekends, but its too crowded and noisy. Igatpuri is pure heaven compared to that. I found Igatpuri much better place than Lonavala.
Best season to visit is after monsoon by August-September, you can expect lil showers happening all the time. Once you reach the top , you will be surrounded by array of hills, rivers at their bottom and whole green everywhere. You will be fascinated by the view. If you have time and proper equipment its the best place to camp near the rivers, hills just relax from everything stress free. The noise you will hear will only be the wind blowing.
It was a short trip but was an amazing one and we had only explored only one area of the amazing landscape. Next trip going to be a well-planned one! Its a perfect weekend getaway for mumbaikers as this thing wont cost you much. Only you got to worry about is snacks and drinks that you may have to carry with you. Transport is not an issue,as there is lot of trains from Mumbai which have stops in Igatpuri. Now there are lot more resorts started investing there. Explore the nature in your own way. You are missing very much here.
