As I walked through the gates of Udaan - Le Sutra Great Escapes, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the place. The villa is situated in Lonavala, a picturesque hill station near Mumbai, and it is surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful views of the Sahyadri mountains.
As I stepped inside the villa, I was greeted by a stunning interior. The villa is decorated in a modern style, with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. The living room is spacious and airy, with large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The furniture is sleek and comfortable, and the walls are adorned with beautiful artworks that add a touch of elegance to the space.
As I explored the rest of the villa, I was struck by the abundance of art that is on display. The villa is part of the Le Sutra hotel group, which is known for its emphasis on art and design. Each room in the villa is decorated with unique artworks that reflect the themes of Indian mythology and culture. Every corner of the villa feels like a work of art, and it adds to the overall sense of relaxation and tranquility. The artwork in the living room was themed around Indian mythology while still following the concept of Udaan (to fly like a bird) - which happens to be the theme of the villa. From artwork that depicts Ravana (the devil from the hindu epic Ramayana) to showing Bheem (from the epic of Mahabharata) walking on arrows, the villa was abundant with art.
Not only the living room but each individual room at the villa is adorned with unique works of art ranging from small wall insertions of birds flying to full blown paintings of flying unicorns or sculptures of monkeys eating bananas. The thought that has gone into creating each room in the villa is admirable. To help out, there are always two well trained staff from Le Sutra Great Escapes who are at the property on call and help out with practically everything. This makes the stay more comfortable and luxurious. To top it off, it makes the space great for parties with support from the Le Sutra Great Escapes team wherever required.
The villa has four rooms and can accommodate 8 people comfortably. They also have provisions for extra beds for more people. What’s better is that each room has a distinct theme. It is unique to see how much time goes into picking the room and space where one wants to sleep. Personally, I picked the one with the unicorn painting since it had windows on three sides of the room which could be opened to get abundant sunlight. As a UK girl, sunlight is something I desperately missed however this trip back has helped me to get a lot of sunlight.
One of the highlights of the villa is the rooftop jacuzzi. As I climbed the stairs to the rooftop, I could feel the excitement building. When I reached the top, I was greeted by a stunning view of the mountains and the surrounding greenery. The jacuzzi itself was spacious and luxurious, with plenty of room for me and my friends to relax and unwind. The Jacuzzi can accommodate upto 8 guests comfortably and adds a vibrant feeling for a rooftop party. This makes the villa perfect for everyone who is looking to throw a party in Lonavala. The view from the Jacuzzi also overlooks the stunning surrounding mountains of Lonavala. As I soaked in the warm water, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and contentment. The sound of the birds chirping and the gentle breeze blowing through the trees added to the overall sense of calm. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day of exploring the surrounding area.
But the art doesn't stop inside the villa. As I stepped outside, I was greeted by a beautiful garden that is filled with sculptures and artworks that blend in seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The garden is designed to be a sanctuary, a place where guests can escape the stresses of everyday life and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. There is a small waterfall by the corner of the lawn where guests can dip their feet and look into nature. Some artwork around the villa also includes a sculpture of owls called "Ullu De Pathe" (literally translating to 'a fool') in Hindi language. The sculpture is supposed to represent owls trying yoga. The space outside the villa is perfect for sunrise yoga facing the mountains. Moreover, the art keeps inspiring people to take a deep breath and to take is slow because they are in a space like no other.
I specially loved the food at the villa. It was delicious coming in from Anglo Indian Cafe, now a popular tourist spot in Lonavala. Some tourists even travel all the way from Mumbai or Pune to Lonavala to try the food at Anglo Indian. I specially loved their fondue, which they served on the fondue plate even inside Udaan, our villa. Their truffle khichdi was unique like no other. It was truly a delight to try their lovely food.
My stay at Udaan - Le Sutra Great Escapes was a truly unforgettable experience. From the stunning interior to the abundance of art both inside and outside the villa, every detail was thoughtfully designed to create a sense of relaxation and tranquility. And of course, the rooftop jacuzzi was the perfect way to unwind and take in the stunning views of the Sahyadri mountains.
